Specific Initiatives of The Nisshinbo Group

Disaster BCP Initiatives

From the perspective of business continuity, the Nisshinbo Group conducts annual drills to confirm the safety of employees in the event of a major earthquake or other emergency and to communicate information necessary for early recovery from a disaster. The Nisshinbo Group developed and introduced a "safety confirmation and emergency communication system" within the Group to quickly and reliably confirm the safety of employees.

In addition, Nisshinbo Holdings Inc. and major business sites of the Group have organized a self-defense fire brigade, which conducts periodic inspections of fire prevention equipment and other facilities, as well as water spraying drills. In addition, annual disaster prevention inspections have been conducted for more than 60 years to strengthen the company's ability to respond immediately after a disaster strikes and to develop an initial response system.

In FY2024, the Nisshinbo Group added the functions of sending emails to all employees and displaying a summary list of safety information to the safety confirmation and emergency contact system. In preparation for the occurrence of a large-scale disaster, the company is further upgrading the system to speed up employee safety confirmation by conducting company-wide training for inputting and responding to such requests.

In addition, during the FY2024 emergency response training conducted by Nisshinbo Holdings Inc., two types of business continuity management (BCM) drills were conducted simulating two scenarios: one where communication infrastructure and power supply were functioning normally, and another where communication infrastructure and power supply were restricted. Furthermore, practical training on the operation of generators and portable power sources to be used in the event of a power outage was conducted for members of the emergency response team. The Nisshinbo Group plans to continue to maintain the necessary equipment in the event of an emergency.

BCP Initiatives in the Procurement Supply Chain

Nisshinbo Group is inquiring about the status of BCP in the procurement supply chain as a survey item for suppliers. In the FY2024 results, many suppliers were found to have insufficient BCP initiatives. The company will continue to provide feedback and support on the survey results, aiming to improve the Nisshinbo Group's supply chain BCP.

Specific Activities of the Group Companies

BCP Activities in the Supply Chain During Emergencies

Japan Radio Co., Ltd. maintains the latest supply chain data in order to quickly gather information and consider alternatives in the event of an emergency (natural disasters, epidemics, fires, riots, terrorism, war, civil unrest, etc.), thereby ensuring a stable supply of products and earning the trust of customers.

In the initial investigation of an emergency, it is necessary to accurately and quickly identify the relevant suppliers; maintaining the accuracy of such information as factory locations is an important issue.

Japan Radio Co., Ltd. makes this possible by deepening its relationships with suppliers who serve as sources of information. The company also strives to maintain these relationships and incorporate the importance of BCP into its daily operations so that it can respond appropriately in the event of an emergency.

Comprehensive Evacuation Drill Conducted in Anticipation of an Earthquake Directly Beneath the Tokyo Metropolitan Area

JRC Tokki Co., Ltd. conducted a comprehensive evacuation drill in September 2024 that involved 201 employees who were present at the company headquarters on that day.

Based on training scenarios created by the company, each team of the in-house fire brigade confirmed the safety measures to be implemented in the event of an accident or other emergency, while paying close attention to safety. In addition, assuming that a fire had broken out on the second floor of the head office building, the firefighting team conducted a firefighting drill using indoor fire hydrants, which resulted in a tense and realistic training session.

Finally, the head of the volunteer fire department reminded everyone to prepare emergency supplies and confirm the means of communication with family members, which raised awareness of the importance of being prepared for disasters that could strike at any time. JRC Tokki Co., Ltd. will continue to provide training on an ongoing basis to strengthen its ability to respond to emergencies.

BCP Response in the Event of a Major Earthquake or Other Disaster

The Procurement Division at Kokusai Denki Electric Inc. regularly surveys and updates information on the manufacturing sites of its business partners (including secondary suppliers) in preparation for business continuity plans (BCP) in the event of a disaster. The purpose of this initiative is to maintain the accuracy of the information in the database in order to respond quickly in the event of an emergency.

For the 12 earthquakes with a seismic intensity of 5 or higher that occurred in Japan and Taiwan in 2024, the company is utilizing this database to confirm the situation with business partners in the affected areas and share information with senior management.

In addition, when the impact of the Noto Peninsula earthquake in January 2024 in Japan on business partners was confirmed, Kokusai Denki Electric Inc. implemented swift measures in cooperation with relevant departments within the company to ensure a stable supply of products to customers.

BCP Response in the Event of a Major Earthquake

The Procurement Division at HYS Engineering Service Inc. regularly updates its supplier registration information as part of its business continuity plan (BCP).

In the event of an earthquake with a maximum seismic intensity of 5 or higher, a large-scale fire, flood, heavy snowfall, or other disaster, HYS Engineering Service Inc. will promptly confirm the disaster situation with business partners in the affected areas by telephone or email and share the results with senior management.

If there is any impact on business operations, HYS Engineering Service Inc. will consult with the relevant departments within the company to discuss countermeasures and minimize the impact on business. In addition, the company's Quality Assurance Department will promptly confirm the operational status of products and the extent of damage by telephone or email, focusing on local governments that support social infrastructure in areas where earthquakes with a maximum seismic intensity of 5 or higher have occurred. The company will report and share the results with senior management and Kokusai Denki Electric Inc. Furthermore, depending on the extent of the damage, the company will rush to the site to assess the situation in detail and work as one Kokusai Denki Electric Group to prevent further damage and restore operations as quickly as possible.

Conduct Emergency Response Drills

The Tsurunuma Plant of Goyo Electronics Co., Ltd. conducts comprehensive evacuation drills once a year, which also serve as initial firefighting drills for the company's self-defense fire brigade, as well as information communication drills employing a safety confirmation system three times a year (before long holidays). The information communication drill conducted in 2024 achieved a 100% response rate. In addition, the company conducts emergency response drills twice a year to minimize the environmental impact in the event of natural disasters, accidents, fires, or other incidents that could result in the release of environmentally hazardous substances into neighboring areas.

These emergency response drills not only ensure that employees take the appropriate action in the event of an emergency but also confirm that all emergency equipment functions properly and that there are no shortages or deficiencies in supplies. The company will continue to conduct drills on an ongoing basis to raise disaster prevention and safety awareness and steadily strengthen their preparedness for emergencies.

Education on How to Respond in the Event of a Major Earthquake

GOYO ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. provides internal training twice a year for its Procurement Department and focuses on BCP training. This training involves reading and discussing internal regulations related to large-scale disaster response manuals and crisis management response standards for business partners, which are designed to address such situations as earthquakes with a maximum seismic intensity of 5 or higher. The company also promotes a deeper understanding by introducing recent examples of disaster responses and explaining them to employees in an easy-to-understand manner.

The company established a system to promptly report to management on the status of business partners in the affected areas and the extent of damage. However, in cases where the impact of the earthquake is widespread, it may take time to conduct the investigations. The company strives to give accurate instructions while listening to the opinions of the person in charge, and GOYO ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. instructs employees to continue making timely phone calls and sending emails that take into consideration the feelings of our business partners in order to obtain accurate information.

In addition, assuming that GOYO ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. is affected by a disaster, the company conducts annual training exercises using satellite phones to communicate between factories in order to quickly grasp the situation at the company.

Workplace and Community Safety Initiatives

Kokusai Denki Electric Linear S/A in Brazil conducts the following emergency response and first aid training for employees once a month under the guidance of fire department personnel.

Regular Review and Training of BCP (Business Continuity Plan)

Nisshinbo Mechatronics Inc. developed a business continuity plan (BCP) with the aim of minimizing the impact on business activities and prioritizing human life in the event of a major earthquake that could seriously affect business continuity.

The BCP is updated to include response measures based on the latest damage forecasts, reconfirm the damage expected at each site, and update information on raw materials, suppliers, and other relevant information. The company is also reviewing disaster prevention materials and emergency supplies.

As part of the BCP training, in October and November of 2024, the company conducted drills simulating a disaster, including setting up a headquarters, securing emergency power supplies, gathering information on damage within the workplace using transceivers, assessing the status of suppliers, and connecting to other sites via the Web.

Nisshinbo Mechatronics Inc. regularly reviews regulations and conducts training to ensure that personnel are prepared to respond to any emergencies that may arise.
